How did I find myself moving for the 4th time in 6 years?

I’ve moved a lot in my life.  It’s the way it went, biscuit wise (as the saying goes), when I was growing up.  My father had a busy sales career and a wife and 4 children to support, so he had to go where the work took him.  I will never ever know what it’s like to be born, grow up, live and die in one town or city like the majority of people on this planet.  There are pros and cons to this, of course, which I won’t go into now, but to those who have grown up in one place and are itchy to get moving, it’s not as glamorous as it sounds. And really, it can get very tedious.

Anyway, 8 years ago, my husband and I bought what we thought was our dream ‘forever’ home. Where we thought we would stay until we were old and grey.  It had a big garden with giant tire swing, a big rumpus that would turn into a teenage den, a big entertainers kitchen and deck, well, yes, you get the picture ….

However, we were only able to enjoy it for 2 years when dear husband (pursuing a busy sales career … hmm, anyone notice a theme?) was relocated again with his work.  Not knowing how it would turn out we decided to rent ‘for a bit’.  That started a ridiculous and exhausting sequence of renting 3 different houses in 5 years because every time we thought we would be able to stay indefinitely (2 years would have been great), the current landlord would want to move back in as they were moving back early or, as in this case, were renovating their mansion.  So every time our hand has been forced and we rented again.  Until now.  Having had enough of the evils of renting (dead money, not knowing how long you can stay, not being able to make the house completely your own, dead money, paying extortionate rent, bad agents, dead money, uncertainty, did I mention dead money?) we have finally bought a house.

So after moving in 2002 (3 times), 2004, 2007, 2010, 2011 and now in 2013, hopefully this will be the last time for a while. We may grow old and grey there. We may move on.  Who knows?
